Birthday gift for Grace! I'm pretty sure she liked it. Guess who the lyrics are by Bet you can't. Here's a hint, I really like them. A lot. And they make you fall apart to half-time. Anyways, I really liked doing this. Ink on watercolor paper was pretty fun to try. Going to try adding some watercolor to the mix soon. We'll see how that goes.

Tiffany Blews (Dear Gravity...) Progress

If you're following me on twitter, you'll be privy to all sorts of things! Not just my inane chatter, but things like progress updates on the stuff I'm working on! Currently working on my Tiffany Blews print, the Sad Statue (Road Kamelot and Allen Walker with Maria cameo from D.Gray-man) print, and the sexy pinups of Gambit, Sephiroth, and Viral. Portraits are done and I made the edits to Smoke Rings. Man, this whole process is insane... I might go crazy doing all these prints. At least I won't have many to do for New York Anime Festival. By the way, I'm going to NYAF...

Oh, Lady Gaga lyrics... Anyways, print progress! This here is the sketch for the sexified Sephiroth print. I'm having a lot of fun with the sketch but I KNOW I'm going to hate it when it comes to the inks. Which... are really only inks in name. Whatever. Here it is, with bonus face closeup (and a view of the cover for the new Cobra Starship album, Hot Mess). You'll probably be able to follow my progress tomorrow on my Twitter. By the way, I fail SO HARD at eyes. I can never make both look like they belong on the same face. T^T

No guaruntees though. Mooshu and I are doing a Tank Girl collab, effective tomorrow. She's doing the base sketch, I'm doing clothes, she's doing inks, I'm doing colors. We're both thumbnailing and coming up with stuff. Look forward to it!

EDIT FOR GAMBIT PROGRESS! His flats are done. His, ahem, body hair will be a finishing touch. As will Sephiroth's. Surely, this will make the tweenie anime loving girls squeal and flock to my table at cons. Also, anatomy and skin practice, woo! And hair. I like doing hair...

Two Cups Into My Coffee Break...

Lots of stuff this time around, and mostly finished too! Amazing, right?
These are two Gurren Lagann prints I've been working on for Otakon. Yoko is done. Adiane should be finished soon but I'm taking a break so that I can work on my other prints. Namely, Gambit. I sort of want to get those flats done as soon as possible. Why?






This is the progress on my business card design/logo. I'm done now. It goes from bottom to top because I'm slow and didn't realize that it would upload this way. Oops? Whatevs.


What else, what else...? I'm plotting more sketch cards. For now though, I just have A Case Of The Mondays, Angie, and a Deer Boy that I'll be painting soon. I sort of want to make a cute little Deer Boy Munny because I'm a total fan, okay? Okay.

Sketch Cards

So, I've been doing these sketch cards for, like, three days for absolutely no reason. I've got three right now and I'm working on more. They're in the order I did them, actually.

First is Emo Boy, whose speech bubble now has appropriately emo lyrics (from the hidden spoken word track part of "...but home is nowhere" from AFI's Sing The Sorrow).

Second is this... Audrey II (Little Shop Of Horrors) thing. I don't know, really I don't.

Third are my newest characters, Bear Thing and Squishy from the Tiffany Blews print. Bear Thing is a robot companion who doesn't really do much of anything. He was designed to be a protector but, well, he's not very fast and can only waddle. He's not going to do a good job of protecting anything. The bear suit is meant to make him look deceptively cute. Squishy is meant to alert him to potential threats, but all he does is sleep on people. He's very bad at his job. Perhaps it has something to do with the butterfly bandage on his forehead... (Toys forthcoming?)

Anyways, I'll be (attempting to) paint these tomorrow so I'll either have scans or digital version then. For now... Adieu.

Turnarounds

So! For my Moving art class, we have to do a series of turnarounds. One is in your styel and the rest are from various styles of animation. So far we've done Cohl/Blackton/McCay and the next is 30s style, which is what the above pencil scribble is for. Here's links to the deviations of what I've done so far.

Masssive Art Dump!

Here's a fairly large dump of everything I've worked on since my last update. More or less.

First up, we have the finished, full version of this bookmark (titled Innocence Invocation), along with a random dynamic sketch of a conjurer in the middle of a jump (?!), and a quick paint test of the CG method I used for Innocence Invocation. I need to work on the technique and clean it up a lot, but I'll hopefully have it all worked out pretty soon.
Next is the sketch of Innocence Invocation and an WiP of the face. Yeah, I used color layers over a greyscale underpainting. Because... I'm cheap?
After that are the sketches if the pieces that will go to the winner of the Gaia group auction I did that Death card for way back in the summer. I'm hoping to finish those off within the week. Hoping...
Next is a little sampling of my chibis in the form of Tyki Mikk from D.Gray-man and my original character, Ameir, for the Shards of Aleysa RP I plan to get back into very shortly. Maybe within the week? Depends on how long it takes for the current goings-on to make it to the next day. XD
After that is a simple pose sketch. I never draw seated figures because I have so much trouble making them look natural. That still doesn't look entirely natural, but I think it's partly my color choice and heavily drawing through the figure...

Sketch: The Aging Mad Scientist

This was the beginning of a character design assignment that I wasn't entirely pleased with and abandoned to head in a new direction. If I had finished it up (it was an aging assignment, by the way), his name would have probably ended up being Vladamir or Rasputin or something along those lines. But this is all you get in the end of that venture. An aging mad scientist in about his 50s. He looks quite tired too. And a bit sad. Like he knows his end is coming. Man, some of the things I doodle can be really depressing...

Color Experimentation

Hey, long time no post. I've been pretty busy with my junior thesis, but I did manage to pump out a little something tonight. I, unfortunately, didn't do the sketch. I wish I had, but I didn't. It was done by my friend Juno Mendiola in our Sound Design class on Thursday night. The only bad thing is he did in the middle of one of my craptastic shot sketches. I had to erase bits of poorly drawn figures to get his sketch prepped. But here you go, a Juno/Allie collaborative effort. Sketch by Juno with a 2B technical pencil in about 30 minutes, Colors by me in Painter X in about an hour or so. We'll call it Dementia Problematique, since I've had a constant playlist of Muse going while working tonight.

I've been playing with amy style a bit in anticipation of my junior thesis, so here are the results from yesterday. These are all really basic mannequins with next to no definition and are, in fact, how I start every single sketch. I've decided on a variation of the one to the right in the second, a bit Burton-esque.
