Moving On, Moving Out

I've decided to move my sketch blog. This will continue to exist, at least for a little while, but will no longer be updated. You can now find me at Singing "Nobody Will Ever Remember Me".... Yes, the title's from a Fall Out Boy song, jeez. There's new artwork up there now and more to come as I scan things.

Quickie

Did this as a quick demo for a friend of mine. He wanted to know how I went about doing a greyscale painting before the finished product. So this happened. I actually like it okay. I might do some sort of livestream/video demo some time if anyone cares to see how.

Lineart and Character: Christy Lijewski/nyanko-chan.

It was just that kind of night...

So, for the past two days, I've done livestreams. Yesterday was me working on my entry for nyanko-chan's contest on deviantART but tonight I just doodled and took requests. With all my fellow FOB (& FC) fan friends, it pretty much ended up being this silly free-for-all. From it, we have Andy Hurley as Batman (which comes from one of the FC podcasts, maybe #12?), Patrick Stump as Catwoman (long story... not really...), and Matt Mixon as a gunslinger with a chewstick. Want to know how this all came about? Well, for Andy's, you're going to have to listen to the FC podcasts (they're on iTunes). For Patrick's and Mixon's, you can watch the video on livestream in the On Demand section. You'll also get to see me working. (Note to the people involved if you watch: ... you should probably skip it.) Mixon turned out the best. I'm actually pretty proud of it. Except for the hat. One day, I'm going to figure out hats...

Okay, side note/announcement. I might be switching this blog to either Word Press or Tumblr at some point in the future. Probably Tumblr. Just letting you know, this space could disappear. Or, more likely, just not update in the future. I'll give forewarning so people can update RSS feeds or whatever.

Birthday gift for Grace! I'm pretty sure she liked it. Guess who the lyrics are by Bet you can't. Here's a hint, I really like them. A lot. And they make you fall apart to half-time. Anyways, I really liked doing this. Ink on watercolor paper was pretty fun to try. Going to try adding some watercolor to the mix soon. We'll see how that goes.

Really long time, no post so you get a massive dumb that defies logic. ... Enjoy! :D Ask and ye shall receive answers about these. Promise.

Stuff from my short!

Working on an animated short so I'm uploading stuff, mostly for my teacher. But you can look too, it's okay. Two backgrounds in progress (still working on the greyscale on one and the other needs cleanup) and a quick style shot to visualize what the end product should look like. The animatic (essentially, my storyboards) is being in queue on vimeo right now, but my page is here. Should be available for viewing forthwith.

New Art, New Merch!

Today was, apparently, Arts & Crafts Day. I decided, once it wasn't quite so hot as balls, to print and test out some shrinky dink I snagged at Blick (art store chain). So I did. I took the Fall Out Boy chibis that seemed so well received (admittedly, by friends & fans so maybe it doesn't count) and the Plaguey concept, along with my logos to fill some space. The results are what you see above. They should be in my store soon but I'm doing an unofficial pre-order type thing now for them. Let me know in a comment or Twitter @reply or DM or (if you're privvy to such things) an IM or email that you want one and your name & order shall be added to my magical list. They'll be $4 shipped (and by shipped, I mean sent in an envelope with some stickers and a business card). If you want some extra special treatment, for an extra $1, I'll add a tiny bit of chainmaille to it (see second picture). Why is it extra? Those are goddamned tiny rings, okay? Tiny. They make my fingers hurt after a while.

Scritch Scratch Sketch...

So, some of the stuff I've done lately. Sketches mostly but I'll look for other stuff too (lies, I delete the screens already, oops?). No explaining, it's too hot. Ask in the comments if you want though.

Update

Seems I never posted it here so... I upgrade and reorganized by my shop. More prints and a few things coming soon. Hopefully, a few things coming very soon. There's also finished versions of both Tiffany Blews and Dr. Benzedrine on my DA (link in sidebar).

I'm working on an artbook, a visual interpretation of Fall Out Boy's Folie a Deux. You've seen some of the work in it or will. Namely, Tiffany Blews, Smoke Rings, and the Suitehearts. There's still more to come though. I'll at least have one more big piece that I'll post online. For the rest, you'll have to wait until the book's release to buy and see. I might do a preview or something but that's it. Honestly, this is shaping up to look like two or three artists worked on it instead of just one and I don't know how I feel about that. We'll see when it comes to printing time, I guess.

Non-FOB related art front. I've got a few pieces as thumbnails ready so those should be coming soon. Rogue, Crimson Viper, and Ivy & Harley as well as at least one original print inspired by Janelle Monae's Cybertronic Purgatory.

I've also got work to do on two animated theses. Shall be starting in on that soon. Hopefully one is 3D. Really, that's all I want... Storyboards/animatics and design sheets forthcoming, I think.

If you're wondering why there's no actual art to show for all this supposed working, it's because I am currently sans power cord for my laptop. Thankfully, Apple's replacing it for me via overnight. I think however, that won't be happening today due to the intense current rain. My laptop has all the programs I use, the scanner installed, everything. The power cord going was maybe a blessing and maybe a wrench in my plans. I've gotten a lot done but none of it can be finished, only started. Hopefully, the replacement comes soon and you won't have to sit through another wall of text.

Post-Otakon Art Wrap Up

Otakon was... a bit disappointing, sales-wise. Though it was great if you love the drama. Anyways, above are my two marker chibi examples. Pretty much all I did. I did get a $30 full body ink commission that I still haven't finished because I suffered some serious art fail on Sunday morning. I'll upload when I finish though. Planning to do more examples for my book soon though. Cutting down on examples and switching to the 11x17 book threw people off, I think. Also, need to apply some psych to my set up. Sharing because I'm awesome (and no one reads this).

1. Guys look up, girls look down. If a guy spots a half-naked man, he's more likely not to look further.
2. My originals are fairly gender neutral. Though apparently the smoke heart in Smoke Rings looks like a set of tits?! What the fuck, chick, you're just jealous that mine look better than yours...
3. Neonvom, it's what's for dinner (and short attention spans).
4. If it's there, people will keep looking.
5. Small merch will probably help sales. So will actually popular series and animu shits.
6. I should pass out at the table more often. People are less intimidated if I'm asleep. =_=
7. Music makes the world go 'round. Doesn't matter what it is so long as it has a good beat.

That's all I got fo now. Free things kicked ass, as did my trades with Dan, Ally, and Emi. Grace and Khel shall have trades next con. I'll make sure I have ones for you guys. Ummm, are you both going to NYAF or just Grace? Hmmm, must remember to ask...
